Railway Higher Secondary School, Ratlam was established in 1922 in the British Rule as a primary school and was upgraded to the middle level gradually by 1940. It was further upgraded to the high school level and higher secondary level in 1948 and 1958 respectively. The school had been affiliated to the MP Board of Secondary Education, Bhopal. It was run under 10+2 system from 1984 offering Science, Commerce and Arts faculties.
At present, the school has been affiliated to the C.B.S.E., New Delhi. It is a co-educational school run in both Hindi and English medium. The school has well maintained sophisticated laboratories of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Geography. The school imparts computer education to the students from class VI to X as a part of vocational training.
The school has been awarded THE BEST SCHOOL shield by the Head Quarter, Mumbai, in the year 2001, 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2011 for the excellent performance in academics, sports, and other co-curricular activities. The school has also the privilege of keeping the CHETNA CHAMPIONSHIP shield for 13 consecutive years since 1999. The Chetna Khel Mela is organized at the district level in which around 72 schools take part. Many of the students have played state and national in hockey, football, boxing, kho-kho, and athletics. The school has also maintained the record of keeping the Western Railway Inter-Division School Championship Award consecutively for around 10 years.
